Today was the last day of Nurse Assistant Training! It was a crazy three weeks, but I met some great people and learned a LOT. We spent two weeks in a classroom for 6 hours a day learning the basics and practicing skills on each other. Let me tell you-brushing someone else's teeth is a little weird the first time. The third week was spent at a nursing home in the area where we were each assigned a resident to take care of during the day. Let's just say I've never made so many beds in my life, but they looked pretty frickin good when I was done with them. The residents were really grateful to have some fresh (young!) faces in the building and welcomed our help with pretty much anything. It's hard to imagine being old and no longer independent, but hopefully by working in a place like this I'll have a better appreciation when I'm old and still running around the block (just maybe in my motor scooter instead of on my own two feet :-).
The class was full of 14 other awesome girls. All of whom I would be lucky to work with in the real healthcare field someday. Hopefully the prospective PAs can stay in touch and maybe see each other down the road when we've passed bed making and denture cleaning! Thanks for a great three weeks ladies!
